1. Rehearsals
The Choir meets for rehearsals on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 until 9:30 p.m. in the Drama studio or Arts hall at Chepstow Leisure Centre/School. Normally rehearsals break for Summer Holidays after the Summer Concert or from mid July to early September. Any variations are announced at rehearsals or by letter. Choir members are expected to contact friends who are missing when changes are announced.
Members are expected to be on time and to avoid talking during rehearsals.
The Committee in liaison with the Musical Director may stop a choir member from taking part in a concert if they have attended less than 70% of rehearsals.
2. Concerts
Concerts are normally held in the St Mary's Parish Church although some concerts, particularly secular concerts may be held elsewhere.
Concert dress:
Ladies:
White long-sleeved blouse (plain coloured for some concerts).
Long (ankle-length) plain black skirt.
Choir scarf (turquoise blue - available for purchase or loan from the librarian) tied loosely. (NB not normally worn for concerts in Lent).
Black shoes.
Minimal jewellery.
Men:
Black dinner jacket (tuxedo) and trousers.
White shirt.
Black bow tie (coloured for some concerts).
Black shoes.
3. Music
Music is either hired or purchased by choir members. Where funds allow, purchased music will be subsidised from Society funds.
Where hired music is loaned to choir members, a deposit may be required, returnable when the music is returned. In some cases a non-refundable small charge may be made for loaned music to cover administration and postage costs.
Members of the Society should be aware that it is against the law to photocopy copyright music.
4. Subscriptions
The annual subscription is determined each year by the Treasurer who will obtain agreement from the Management Committee, it will normally be advised to members at or before the Annual General Meeting. Subscriptions are expected to be paid within two months of the AGM, failure to pay within three months may result in termination of membership. Subscriptions are not returnable.
New members who join part-way through the choir year will be charged a proportionate fee. Young people in full-time education are not charged.
5. Management Committee meetings
Committee meetings are held throughout the year to manage the day-to-day running of the Society and the organisation of Concerts and other events.
The committee may, from time to time, make changes to the rules and processes.
Minutes of all meetings will be documented and available for inspection by members of the Society.
6. New starters
New members of the Society will be given a pack containing details of the rules and processes along with dates of forthcoming events and rehearsal schedules.
7. Web page
The Society has a web page http://www.chepstowchoralsociety.org.uk. This is maintained by a third-party. The maintenance costs are funded by the Society.
8. Affiliation
The Society is affiliated to the Welsh Amateur Music Federation.
